Their younger years! (disclaimer: if you are one who does not like to talk about poop or anything relating to poop, do not read!)

Recently l spent an evening at the Earth Monkey Mom Clothing Exchange. I overhear a mom talking with Linz about how she loved the blog, and that being a first time mom sometimes her days are hard and it was great to have other moms to relate to. I feel so far from what she was talking about now that my kids are older, but it took me back to a time when my 3 were little and here is where my story starts. I call this.......

"The Story of Jack"

So I have now been a parent for 9+ years, we all have our stories but one day stands out very vivid in my mind.... At that time my kids were almost 5,3 & almost 1. My oldest, max was in pre school so during his school times, nearly every week I would have play dates with my friends Jeni and Stacia, whom both had one child at the time. So it was me, Jack and my baby Elie hanging out. We had been working really hard to get Jack potty trained, he was 31/2, which I felt was ridiculous. Jack had been playing in a little room when I noticed his wet pants, and let me tell ya, I was instantly set off! "Jack, why did you pee your pants? Why didn't you tell mommy?" So I drag him in the bathroom, so annoyed, here we go again! But Jack had more to offer then a pair of wet pants. (This is where the story gets gross) My little man had pooped his pants, but this was no normal situation. His poop had somehow formed itself into a ball, baseball size to be exact! (no exaggeration!) So I spend a moment trying to figure out the best way to maneuver this thing, I shimmy the undies off trying to avoid the "ball" rolling down his legs, hold the "ball" in the undies

like a sling and gently roll it out into the toilet. Problem 2: my dear friend Jeni lived in a new house, one with low flow toilets in it, you get where I am going? Well Jack's "ball" was not in the water so I had to get it there....

  How you ask?

I grab a handful of tp and caress the "ball" down into the water. (editors note: I just spit my drink out of my nose picturing Kim "caressing a poop ball!")

And then came problem 3: This is when I realized, "this thing is wayyy too big to flush!!" So I pull myself together, exit the bathroom and ask my friend if she has anything I can cut it with.......Yes, I was going to cut up the "ball"! And let me tell ya, Jeni, was quite accommodating, even through her and Stacia's laughter.
I took my plastic knife and went in and tackled the "ball"! In disbelief that this is what my life was, I was cutting up my child's crap. Anyway I left her house that day in tears, mentally exhausted! I remember feeling like it was one of the worst days in being a parent I had experienced...
But now I can tell that story and laugh nearly every time,
because it IS funny.
It just wasn't at the time. These difficult days may possibly break you, at the time, but they will leave you with a memory of that child FOREVER! Also, those difficult kids have their own timing. That is one thing I have learned about Jack, he will do it, but it will be when he wants to. (example: potty training, bike riding, swimming etc. getting dressed, pretty much anything!) And they will strike again! This Memorial weekend I had to cut yet another turd in our trailer, somehow this one came out sideways! The first to get a text from me, Jeni and Stacia, because I knew they would appreciate it!

Honestly without the difficult times, what would we have to talk about? This is such a short time in your life, and one day you will look at that child and think he is the smartest, funniest little turd in the world!

Since the EMM theme of the month is Get Healthy, I knew I wanted to give you a different approach to healthy. Our products are made with locally grown organic products (when available) with no additives or preservatives, ever! So being healthy is not just about the 4 letter word D&%T, (that we're not saying this moth), but it's also about making good choices for you and your family!

This blog post we decided to focus on the delicious, the amazing Creamy Pesto Dressing…yes I said dressing! There are many uses to the Creamy pesto, such as pasta sauce , sandwich spread and I love making pizzas with it. Although, ask Linz and she would tell you that you can eat it with just a spoon! But my partner in crime, my Saucy Sister has one of the best uses yet! Wait for it, Wait for it………Creamy Pesto Potato Salad!!!!! Not being a fan of traditional potato salad myself, I was super excited to here her idea for this one! She thought it up while menu planning a catering job for one of our favorite ex-employee's. So next time you go to a cook out, wow them with a potato salad that is out of this world!!

{Here is what you will need}:

A small bag of red potatoes, boiled and chopped small

1lb. of bacon, cooked and crumbled

2 Chicken breasts, grilled or baked, and diced

2 red peppers, diced (feel free to load it with any veggies you would like)

1-2 tubs of Saucy Sisters Creamy Pesto (depending on how Saucy you want it)

After all your ingredients are cooked up toss everything together is a large bowl and chill for at least an hour. And there you have it, the best Potato Salad EVER!!

Lets get Saucy!!! (pasta that is)

Kim... is a married mother of three very "active" children. She manages an Italian restaurant and is one of the original "Saucy Sisters". Saucy Sisters is a sauce and salad dressing company that produces fresh sauces with bold flavors. Striving to make the home cook look like a genius, the Saucy Sisters will take your kitchen to a whole new level!

With March fastly approaching we Saucy Sisters are gearing up to what we think, and hope will be our biggest market season yet!  Why you ask?  Well, this year in addition to the Thursday Market in Medford we are adding Tuesdays in Ashland...and Ashland will be big!

I know many of you have not yet had the Saucy experience. During the off season we have sold a good number of products out of the restaurant (Redrock Italian Eatery) but come market season we expect to make 70-100 of each product weekly. So it is nearly time for these sisters to get back to work, dust off our Saucy Wagon (bring it home for the husband to fix), and get this valley Saucy!

Today I am giving you a super simple Saucy recipe that even Lindsay can do!

(editors note: thats rough Kim...Lindsay can mess up  follow a recipe just fine!)

And the best part is you only need 2 things:

1 bag of frozen or fresh cheese tortelini

1 tub of Saucy Sisters Creamy Pesto ….mmmmmmmmm

Cook the tortellini as directed, and Linz that means boil water and let the little guys float. (little guys, now that is something Lindsay knows about!) Strain them, and run them under cold water until they are cooled down. Add them to a bowl, scoop in some Creamy Pesto, toss together and Wa-la! A super easy pasta salad that the whole family will eat. Now if you want to get adventurous you could add some diced bell pepper, broccoli, or even chopped chicken….whatever you like!

So remember you can get our products every day at Redrock Italian Eatery (after 4pm), Starting March 15, Tuesdays at the Ashland growers market and Thursdays at the Medford growers market!

Come down and support your local growers and of course the Saucy Sisters!

Want to win the Saucy Sisters' Creamy Pesto from the recipe?? One reader can win if you "like" Saucy Sisters' Facebook page and then share that you did so on the Earth Monkeys Facebook page...

This aint your mama's bruschetta... it's your sisters!

[A Note From the Earth Monkey Moms...]

I've known Kim since high school... and let me tell you, she's always been saucy:) We were so excited when she agreed to be an EMM contributor, partially because she's an awesome mom and friend and I knew she would do a great job... and selfishly because I am addicted to her sauces and any excuse I can get to consume said sauces I will take.

I tend to be a little gun shy of fancy sounding recipes... and as the self proclaimed "Anti-Marthas" Gena and I had to psych ourselves up to take on the daunting task of (dah dah dah) following a recipe. In true monkey fashion, we thought we could set the 5 kids up with glitter glue and markers and they would decorate their ornaments angelically while we made the bruschetta. Let me just say, Bwahahahahahahahah.  HmmHmm excuse me, anyway that didn't quite work so after an hour of hardcore crafting and 5 kids covered in glitter, we started cooking. And here's the thing... it was sooo easy, and SUPER yummy!! If the Anti-Marthas can do it, you can do it too. So, just in time for party season, here is the bruschetta recipe that will make you look like a gourmet chef and possibly add 5 pounds of junk to your trunk if you down 14 pieces like yours truly...

Saucy Sister's Easy Bruschetta Recipe...

You will need:

1 tub of Saucy Sister's Pesto

4 good size tomatoes

I small can of black olives

Shredded parmesan

1 baguette

First slice your baguette in half inch slices, place on a cookie sheet and put in a 350 degree oven until lightly toasted

Dice your tomatoes and olives, put in bowl and toss together

Add 4-6 heaping spoons of pesto and a 1/4 of your shredded parmesan

Mix up well

Spread  a little Pesto on each bread slice, spoon topping on, and wa-la, you have an Easy, Super Delicious Appetizer!

Want to win one of the four AMAZING sauces Saucy Sister's makes? All you have to do is "like" them AND Earth Monkeys on Facebook... then comment on the post ON facebook.. We'll announce the winners at 7 pm tonight... Obviously only Southern Oregon residents will be eligible to win since the sauces have to be refrigerated...
