Picky Family... Lazy Mama... Don't Judge:)
![]() |
My boys... (including my husband)... are just the opposite. Picky isn't even a strong enough word to describe whatever it is they are. Sawyer has to sniff everything and has turned down cakes, and cookies and candy many times because he's not sure about how it feels on his fingers. I realize autism has a huge role to play in the pickiness of two of my men... but what's my hubby's excuse? And why in the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks won't my youngest eat anything but fruit roll ups and pretzels? That's rhetorical... I don't really want your advice:) I know what you're thinking... be the boss!!! make him!!! But I'm lazy and don't want a fight and have about 15 other excuses if you want to check back with me later:):)
Here's the thing, along with loving a hot loaf of "fresh at 5" from safeway, or anything with butter or heavy whipping cream in it... I do in fact also LOVE veggies.. I love salads and chicken and beats and chard and leeks and so many other really heathy foods... BUT... I HATE ... I mean I HATE(!!!) making them just for myself. My husband won't eat green and never has to my knowledge. Sawyer has actually thrown up just from seeing peas in a bowl by his plate (not even joking)... the little boys are just stubborn ... and I am the worst of all... I am the L word... L-A-Z-Y!!
I can admit it... I start the day off with great intentions... and so many times the only things I eat until 5 pm are bites I steal from the boys. They are scarred by their thieving mother's attempts to help them "finish" and all to often ask me to stay away from their food... poor kids:):) AND it's not because I'm soo crazy busy I just don't have time to eat a real meal... but because mama's too lazy to go throw some pre-washed lettuce in a bowl or slap a piece of turkey on some bread. It's that bad. If I'm hungry I grab whatever's fastest and easiest... which translates into "CRAP" off of my kids plates, and then I like to gorge myself with dinner because I realize I am freeken starving...
What is wrong with me that I can sit here and totally confess my problem, and know exactly what is keeping me from being healthy??? Mama is seriously whacked out. So here's the thing... I thought with your help maybe I can change my ways....
Will you share your healthiest, yummiest, EASIEST recipes with me??? Something that keeps well for left overs??? Yes, I literally need you to hold my hand and walk me through this... sad I know! Leave your fave TASTY healthy recipe in the comments section and I will randomly choose one person to win a set of our EM green baby gear:):) Help a mama out... I think I'm on the verge of scurvey:):) hehe

{Earth Monkeys} Messy Monkey Mother's Day Contest
Before kids I remember being sooo grossed out and completely disgusted when I saw grimy, sticky little kids out in public. I vowed that my kids would {1} never be that messy and {2} if they were, they certainly wouldn't go out in public that way. Ahahahaha... yes, I was an idiot!
It's amazing how easy it is now, three kids later, to just say "ehhh." It's an absolute miracle to get out of the house with everyone dressed, teeth brushed, hair combed and face washed... like we're talking almost NEVER! So today in honor of my messy monkeys (because Gena's kids are NEVER messy... unless I'm babysitting and they're at my house:)) we are excited to announce our {Messy Monkey Mother's Day Contest}. Finally the months/years of grimy monkeys taking over your life has paid off! ONE lucky mom will walk away with a prize pack worth hundreds of dollars from some amazing mommy owned companies ***see bottom of post for complete prize list***

A pillow project with only 6 easy steps!!! A lot of "Chic" a little "Shabby"
Mindy is the mother of two children, a wife and creator of all that is beautiful~along with her business of making any piece of unloved furniture amazing, she inspires others to try their hand at adding character to their own homes. Her blog "Pretty in Paint" is a fun and inspiring look into her world.
I always walk through stores like Pier1 or even Target and all the cute pillows are like 20-30 dollars!!! Who can afford that when you know they are gonna get ruined by the kids or the dog or my husband, plus you need at least 2 and $40 is an investment!!. Recently I have converted my house into a Shabby chic kindof style. The best part of this is, it can be shabby!!! As in not perfect, a little lopsided, mix and matched!!!Which means I can sew and my lines don't have to be totally straight and it wont matter!!! How great is that. I'm a fast sewer (because I have no time or patience to take my time), I don't have time to cut straight lines or use those annoying pins.. I just wing it! I'm not kidding!! If you look really close at the lines on the pillow they are not straight. and it doesnt matter. yay! But recently after walking through Pier1 I found these napkins for $2.97 each and a bag of Polly-fill for $3.00 so for a total of about $7.00 I made this fabulous shabby white pillow. So for that price if it only lasts a few months, I'm fine with that!!
And here is how you can do it!
Step 1: Wash and dry the napkins then iron them
Step 2: Lay out the napkins good side out on both sides.
I wanted the cute trim on the outside to show,
so I sewed them on the good sides out
instead of the conventional inside out
instead of the conventional inside out
Step 3: Sew the entire 3 edges of the napkin fabric,
leaving about an inch for the trim to not be sewn
*Leave about 6 inches unsewn so you can stuff your pillow
(Let me remind you I'm not a great sewer at all!!! I have a cheap wal-mart sewing machine that I went in 1/2's with, with my mom!! So If I can do it, anyone can do it!)
Step 4: Stuff your pillow with poly-fil,
just shove fist fulls inside until its fluffy enough for you
Step 5: Hold together the 6" opening and sew it shut!
Thats it!!
We are so jazzed that Mindy is giving away this adorable pillow that she showed us how to make! Simply "like" her Pretty in Paint FB page and of course Earth Monkeys too then come back and "comment" below...a winner will be chosen at random! Oh Oh Pick me!!!!
And one last thing...please take a quick second and click the "about 2011" link to the right and vote for Earth Monkeys...it's easy and we need every vote! Thanks friends!!!!

Mommy Chic: How to glam up any boring outfit with simple accessories...
![]() |
| Clearly she needs Jamie's help! |
From Frumpy Geek To Mommy Chic...
Tips On Accessorizing From Jamie at Bohemian Jones
It’s very unlikely you’ll ever see me in anything but flats, I’m a minimalist when it comes to makeup, and my favorite outfit is jeans and a t-shirt! I know, it sounds like the classic case of the “mom” plague! Here is what you’ll always see me in...accessories! Not just because it’s what I do, but because it’s an easy way to make the simplest (and even the comfiest) outfit look newly hip!Tips On Accessorizing From Jamie at Bohemian Jones
Edit for Impact: If you have an eye catching piece
such as a bold necklace, a cuff, or big earrings,
let it be the focus and keep everything else to a minimum.
Mix it Up:
Toss out the matchy-matchy theory… head to toe of any scheme is never fun! Instead try simple unexpected pairings such as mixing metals, a single pop of color from a cocktail ring or pendant! Another great contrast is mixing feminine and masculine textiles, but again “edit for impact” on this one!

Know Spatial Relations:
You want your accessories to be a focal point, but don’t clutter yourself in them. Keep your distance between pieces. If you’re wearing a cocktail ring, don’t wear other smaller rings (except your wedding ring of course), or if you’re wearing a multi-strand necklace, don’t wear long earrings.
You get the idea!

Go-to’s:
Trends are always fun to keep up with, but for us busy moms putting on a fun chunky necklace is the farthest thing from our minds when we’re headed to the grocery store! This is where staple pieces are great, usually in forms of metals & sparkly diamonds or crystals! Hoops are a personal favorite “go-to” when I’m running out the door! I refer to it as “faking effort”, while others may call it “effortless chic”! Throw on a pair of hoops with a cute hat or scarf and “wha-la” you make “mommy-hood” look chic with a little sparkle! (editors note: this works unless you are at the grocery store with Linz and I, people run from our chaos too quickly to notice anything but blurrrr!)
Here’s how to nab them:
Write a Facebook post on your wall that includes tags to both Bohemian Jones and Earth Monkey’s The crazy lucky winner will be chosen at random today!
(***Here’s how to tag someone on FB: While typing your post hit the “@” key and start typing the name of the person and your contact list will appear… click the name and you’re done!**)
