{Earth Monkeys} Messy Monkey Mother's Day Contest
Before kids I remember being sooo grossed out and completely disgusted when I saw grimy, sticky little kids out in public. I vowed that my kids would {1} never be that messy and {2} if they were, they certainly wouldn't go out in public that way. Ahahahaha... yes, I was an idiot!
It's amazing how easy it is now, three kids later, to just say "ehhh." It's an absolute miracle to get out of the house with everyone dressed, teeth brushed, hair combed and face washed... like we're talking almost NEVER! So today in honor of my messy monkeys (because Gena's kids are NEVER messy... unless I'm babysitting and they're at my house:)) we are excited to announce our {Messy Monkey Mother's Day Contest}. Finally the months/years of grimy monkeys taking over your life has paid off! ONE lucky mom will walk away with a prize pack worth hundreds of dollars from some amazing mommy owned companies ***see bottom of post for complete prize list***
SO HERE'S HOW IT WORKS...
{SUBMIT}
E-mail me the most absolutely disgustingly messy picture of your little monkey (only one that you are comfortable with thousands of people seeing:)) lindsay@earthmonkeys.com. I will add it to our Messy Monkey Contest album on our Earth Monkeys facebook page. Picture submission will be open until 7 pm wednesday night... thursday and friday the contest will continue but only as a time for each candidate to gather "votes"
{SHARE}
Once your monkey's picture is posted "SHARE" the link on your facebook page. To share on your page you just click the "share" button in the lower left corner of the picture page... let me know if you need help with this. You can share this as many times as you'd like throughout the week... voting will be closed Friday night (5/6) at 7 pm.
{VOTE}
After you've shared the link on your page ask your friends and family to "VOTE" for your little one by either commenting on or "liking" the picture. Each person will only be counted one time and you may vote for your own child. (Voters will have to "like" our page in order to vote...facebook's rules not ours)
Once the voting ends one Friday night at 7 pm, the messy monkey picture with the most "votes" will win the ENTIRE prize pack! Think of it as an early Mother's Day present from your Monkey Moms!!

Oldies but goodies! Diggin into the archives...
You know those moments where your plate is so full that if someone put one more thing on it, you would throw it across the room it would tip over? Well, for me, I had one last week. I texted Lindsay something to the tune of "I am tuning out before I loose my mind. I can't blog, facebook, email, or do anything Earth Monkey related. My kids, my husband and my house need me. I am fried" And after she pulled out some more of her own hair (without telling me of course) she graciously and lovingly "gave me the week off". I'm sure that none of you noticed I was MIA or even missed me for that matter, but like it or not, I am back! So now that Lindsay is completely fried from caring the burden of single handedly entertaining millions, she came up with a great idea. So here it is...
Oldies but goodies
For those times when crazy just needs to be turned down a notch, (I'm stealing her words), we will pick a post from the archives that for some reason or another, we liked...because this is a much simpler solution to one of us loosing our minds! So excuse me a moment while I go find something!
Ok, I'm back. So apparantly my post today is going to be full of plagerism because I am inspired to just share a short post that I did last year, and it is just a saying. I guess "just a saying" doesnt do it full justice. I think this is so important that if we all believed it and lived by it, our world, or at least our homes would look a lot different. So today I am reminding myself of what is important, and I hope that you all get a little punch in the gut gentle reminder too.
The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes. Charles R. Swindoll
So there you go. Put it on your bathroom mirror, email it to your husband (although that could backfire...) put it in the staff room at work. Today, I am committed to this, and tomorrow I will wake up and try to live it again....after coffee! And if you have a saying that inspires, motivates, or makes you laugh, could you "comment" it below for us??? We all need it!
Just a couple of reminders...check out the "casting call" announcement to the right...we are looking for one adorable monkey to represent Earth Monkeys! (we figure you are tired of seeing ours all the time!)

DIY Photography: {How to create memories of your kids in an artistic way}
Alex was born in Lima, Peru. When she was sixteen when she moved to Central Point, Oregon. A few years after graduating high school she met, fell in love with and married her husband. Together they have two very active girls. She is an amazingly creative photographer, and we are excited to have her share her "brilliance" with us!! Make sure to go to her FB page and "like" her! She deserves it!!
I've been having a blast documenting my little ones lives by taking pictures and video taping them. Even though I live to imagine, invent, and create, I have never been a fan of scrap booking. Nothing against it I think it is a great way to preserve pictures and memories. I just have never gotten into it, however I do love to put pictures up on our walls.
In this post I will give you ideas of fun ways to personalize your kids rooms in a way that they will always remember. You can decide what you would like to do for this project, by coming up with an idea that best fits your family.
I have chosen to take a picture of my daughter Jennah and her best pal in the world. Her name is baby. I know it is not very original -- she did name her when she was one, but she loves her so much. She has been in our family since Jennah was born. We do not dare to leave her anywhere because she won't sleep without her; literally! We left her in Seattle once and we did not sleep until grandma overnighted her!!! I have also decided to take a picture of my youngest daughter Isabella and her weiner dog Twinkers, who is her best pal.
For this project you need:
An idea/ vision like the one above
A camera ( it does not need to be a fancy one )
Some sort of editing program such as Photoshop elements, or Picasso ( it is free I believe)
[editors note: EMM's use picnik.com...it's easy for those not too smart :) ]
Frames to hang the pictures in.
Step One
Decide what background you want to use for your picture...be sure to pick and area that has plenty of natural light. I chose my girls playroom because I like the pastel tones in that room.

Step Two
Dress up your little ones or whoever is going to be in the picture. It looks best when all of the colors flow together. I chose to dress my girls in fun, colorful shirts and pink tule skirts. I also made sure that Baby and Twinkers got their bath and looked as good as they could from being loved/abused for as long as they have!

Step Three
Turn off the flash and take a couple of test shots. You may need to turn the flash on if the pictures are not clear. You can use your editing software to make it look more natural and artsy.
Set your subjects up in the planed area, and snap away! (the more you take, the better chance of getting a GREAT one!)
Step Four
Pick your favorite pictures and edit them to taste in the program you like. Always start by fixing the light, sharpening ( not too sharp ) then you can play with the colors, textures or whatever effects you like.
Step Five
Order your prints!!! Yea! ( or print them yourself)
A photo lab will be able to make your pictures look much better than your home printer. I refer all of my clients to Total Camera in Medford where you can get a CD or order the pictures online and pick them up or have them shipped to you. You can even call and ask them to make adjustments to assure the best results. No they are not paying me to advertise ... I just really like the quality. Gena knows what I am taking about ;)
Step Six
Shop for your frames and hang them up :)
Here is my finished product

I want more of Christmas...no less...no more...no less...
Oh what a lovely night...I just got both kids down (in their own beds...miracle) and I'm sitting here in the silence (except for the t.v., the drier, and the dishwasher) just me (and the dog, and the husband) typing. O.K. so it's only a little glamorous. The beautiful part is the shimmery Christmas tree beside me, not to mention the chuga chuga choo choo train (named by my 2 year old) lying in pieces underneath the for-mentioned shimmery Christmas tree. None the less, it's pretty. What makes it even better is that I can gaze at it through my peripheral vision (fancy word), (O.K. I'll stop using parenthesis now, I know its annoying!!!) and completely ignore the massive pile of boxes, stockings, wreathes, lights, snowmen, and other decor behind me...you get the picture right? You see, my decorating has just begun...2 days ago! I have had time to accomplish nothing other than the tree and the mess! I am not complaining. I love Christmas and all most of what it brings, but sometimes, it's all just a bit too much. Here are just a few things I am trying to accomplish (along with my normal job, kids, house, company, volunteer work, nose and butt wiping, driving, etc, etc, etc...)
Christmas cards
Decorating
Baking
Christmas parties
Shopping (No I was NOT out there with you crazies on black friday, or I guess it's thursday now!)
Wrapping presents like Martha
Making the perfect Christmas CD
Lights outside that could rival Clark Griswold!
Lights inside
putting out Christmas dishes...and on, and on...
I know that a lot of you could fill in about a dozen more things you are wanting to do in the next month, but here is my thought for all of us. First of all if you love the chaos, you go girl, but if you are like me and you don't, I think you will appreciate the words that our pastor gave us today.
He said (I may not be getting this exactly right but here goes)
"I want to make MORE of Christmas, by making LESS of Christmas".
Read that again...
"I want to make MORE of Christmas, by making LESS of Christmas".
I LOVE THIS!!!! Because I love Christmas, I am going to make LESS of it this year. What I love, is that for every one of us that chooses to do this, it will mean something different. For me, here is what it means.
I will not buy every toy that my kids say they need.
I will not make my own bows for each package.
I will not bake. Nope not even once! I hate baking people, and I'm the only one that will eat it any way!
I will not host a party, or shop for a new outfit for any that I go to.
I will not care if I don't get wreaths put up just so, or if the stupid train spends more time on the floor than it does on the track.
And I will go back to what Christmas means to me and my family. We will celebrate Jesus birthday. We will remember why celebrate, and focus on the magnitude of what He did for us.
So thats it. Simple. I am making more of Christmas this year by making less of Christmas this year!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Single Dad Laughing: Pulchritude Poetry Contest
EARTH MONKEYS WON FIRST PLACE... WOO HOO!
Here’s our prize winning submission using the word PULCHRITUDE (physical beauty) in a poem…
I think it captures the essence of who we really are as women….
The Life of an Earth Monkey Mom…
Boogers, snot and poop sound droll,
but wiping butts all day is how we roll.
No time to primp, shave or shower,
because the baby’s been screaming for a FREEKING HOUR!
Sneezed on, puked on so much strife,
man we lead a glamourous life.
Our men come home from working all day,
and carefully craft their words to say:
“You are a stunning picture of pulchritude“
And OUR reply….
“Ahhaahahahahaha… yeah right babe… it’s gonna take more than that to get me in the “Mood”.”
