I have a dream...(and it involves you and a lot of monkeys)

It's funny how dreams go...some take years to cultivate while some spring up in an instant.  Some are shared and encouraged by others and then there are those that make people laugh at you.  They can live inside of you and never surface, or they can be lived out in every day life.

I've had many of them.  Some reaching back as far as my childhood and dreaming of that special toy, my first car, a prom date, my first love.  Going to beauty school to live out my dream as a hairdresser, and rebuilding my life after a devastating divorce.   Now my dreams involve showering ALONE, listening to MY music in the car, drinking my coffee HOT and raising my children to be compassionate, loving, successful adults all while being a perfect wife.  Phew!  I'm tired just thinking about it.

I want to share with you today one of those dreams that "sprung up in an instant."

It started on a warm summer day as Lindsay and I were packing up our 5 monkeys and leaving the growers market.  Our kids were all covered in sludge (this is nothing out of the norm) when Linz was struck with a moment of brilliance and yelled out "we need a bib that fits onto our keychains so we always have it with us".  I said "that is an awesome idea!" And this is the "springing" part...9 months later, we had designed from scratch our first 3 products...found a manufacturer, got a patent, set up complete social networking, set up web sight (and when I say "we", I mean MOSTLY Linz) designed logos, set prices, researched till the cows came home, (and that is just the tip of the ice burg)  Within 3 months of releasing our products, we are in 5 stores, and selling online.  We write this blog, we keep in touch with friends on FB and have become passionate about connecting and sharing with other women.  We are driven to help other women succeed.  We love buying from other women, sharing them with others and supporting them in their ventures and hopefully encouraging you all in the process.  We love you all!!!

That being said, I am going to step out on a limb with another touch of honesty.

We need you.
There are not enough thank you's in the world that we could use to express how grateful we are to everyone who has commented, encouraged, shared and "followed" us.  We are excited and appreciative of every order we have sent out and we are forever indebted and appreciate every single on of you!!!  But...

We need you
First of all let me ask you...Do you know about our products?  Do you know that they are "key chians" that turn into a bib, a changing pad, and a pacifier holder...Do you know they are made out of bpa free recycled plastic bottles...Do you know we donate 1% of our profit to children's charities...

Do you know we sell them for around $10!...Do you know we we gift wrap?...Do you know we are the blood, sweat and tears behind this entire company?  We do it all!  Two crazy moms with two crazy lives, working our butts off to bring you the worlds most revolutionary on the go products that every mom needs!

Someday when Angelina, Jennifer, Jessica, and Mariah are caring around their Earth Monkey gear,  we want you to be able to say "I had mine fist!"...so here is the scoop;  We have given away tons of our product just to get them out there and now we are asking you to support these two tired moms and go buy some.  (did I just hear a gasp?...oh that was me!).  A wise person once told me "the worst thing people can say is no"...so that is why I am asking you.  You can say no, but I think that you now all know that our products are as rad and necessary as we have told you!

Without all of your support, our dream, well our dream does not die, but it struggles.

We hope you will be with us here forever.
We love you all; and We need you.

The dream for Earth Monkeys??? To someday employ women from all walks of life.  Have our own manufacturing plant, our own shipping location (not my spare bedroom),  and have marketing, and development departments ran by women.  Please help us achieve this goal by passing us around.  If you have little ones, please, pick up Earth Monkey gear for yourself, if you know someone with little ones, find something special for them.  With mothers day and Easter just around the corner, the timing is perfect!  This is all we ask; for your support and love!   If you have been waiting for just the right moment to get your Earth Monkey on the go gear, now is the time!

Construction Junction: Crafts from Trash... How Recycley!!

Emilie... is a mom of three boys. She is the founder of both Jackson County Parent to Parent and Families For Community, non-profits that exist to equip parents who have children who experience disability to be the very best advocates for their kiddos that they can be. She began her advocacy work both locally and at a state level in 2007, when her youngest, Parker, was diagnosed with autism. She is immensely passionate about empowering and equipping families experiencing disabilities. She is also a consultant for thirty-one, a company that sells super cute purses, and organizing accessories.

“Almost all creativity involves purposeful play.”
-Abraham Maslow, American psychologist

I hate the rain. I hate to drive in the rain. I hate that my butt gets wet while I am frantically trying to buckle my youngest into his car seat. And I don’t like the smell of wet boys OR wet dog. Rain means the kids unable to run outside and play, and a houseful of boys for days on end usually equals in tears for all of us. But I have a secret weapon. I am crafty. I have Construction Junction.

Construction Junction was something that my mom used to have in her elementary program and she introduced it to my boys this past summer. I am all about providing opportunities for craftiness (I am kind of a craft-whore, don’t judge), and ALL of my boys go nuts when I bring out the Construction Junction box.

Construction Junction is recycling meets adhesive. It is low-temp glue guns, rolls of colored tape, scissors (optional) and whatever you choose to save. Favorites in our house are toilet paper tubes, washed out applesauce cups, corks, egg cartons, frozen juice lids, etc. Occasionally, I will purchase pom-poms, pipe cleaners, or googley eyes; but we try to keep Construction Junction about giving the boys opportunities to be creative with things that we would normally throw away. My house ranges from an almost 11-year-old down to a 5 year old that experiences autism. EVERYONE loves Construction Junction and it can mean HOURS of entertainment and creative play.

Some of you are sweating right now at the idea of setting your child loose with a glue gun. Never fear!! Today, low-temp glue guns are easy to find at any craft store and while the glue is hot, it will not burn. Just as we take the time to teach our kids that we use a fork to eat with, and not to shank your brother with (What?! Only in my house?!), we should also teach our kids that glue guns are for gluing stuff (paper, tubes, pipe cleaners), not siblings, the dog, or furniture.

Construction Junction is not a new concept, but sometimes as a mom I need to be reminded that certain activities are a great idea. This is one of those great ideas! Construction Junction is the ultimate cold/wet weather indoor activity in our house, and hopefully soon it will be in yours!

Creative people are curious, flexible, persistent, and independent with a tremendous spirit of adventure and a love of play.
-Henri Matisse

My First Mission…

We have become what I call modern day hippies…We grocery shop in heels but never use disposable grocery bags! (OK so never might be a little extreme…but we’re trying…so if the paparazzi catch us with plastic bags - don’t judge:) Our pantries have been stripped down to organic minimums, but we will never stop fussing over our hair!
This is why we are so excited about Earth Monkey Moms.  We are modern day moms surrounded by the temptation of “ease”, but what we continue to strive for are more ways that we can ban together and easily take small steps in protecting the beautiful planet God created for us, and the amazing people He gave us to care for.
We are excited to be releasing a new discussion every Friday along with fun posts on Monday and Wednesday that will make you laugh, cry and hopefully challenge us all. The topics will have a huge range…from easy mom hair, to moms of special needs children.  You will hear from experts in fashion to real estate (FYI…we’re not the experts, cause mama can’t know everything:)) The common theme is that WE will be challenged to grow by learning from other moms just like US!

Soon, we will introduce you to some exciting products you will come to love from Earth Monkeys. They are all geared to making your life as a mom simpler and also will help us all do our part to care for the environment.  We can’t tell you any more yet or we will have to tie you up and carry you around in the back of our cars, and frankly between the stroller, the clothing, the shopping bags and whatever is making that awful smell, there just isn’t room.  And honestly if we had to listen to one more person yelling, I’m sure we’d go crazy!  We are sooo excited so stay tuned!!!

So this week I want us to be more aware….Let’s think about everything we eat …everything we feed our kids.  Think about how much we are moving, how much time we’re spending with our kids … doing what they want to do.  (Not just feeding them goldfish crackers to keep them busy or shoving them in front of a movie so we can write blogs…woops we have a long way to go on that one:))
We need to think about what we are thinking about.  I want to challenge you to take a few minutes (in between poopie diapers, homework and fixing another pbj) to think about what is important. We as moms lose ourselves in the monotony of our daily schedules and checklists…Let’s start this week to be more aware and begin to takes positive steps toward change!  No I’m not running for office…just want to start the week off with a challenge because Lord knows by Wednesday I’ll have forgotten it all.
Please feel free to leave a comment or even write your own post to share with EMM readers! There are buttons on the sidebar to the right for you to submit comments/posts and even to ask questions. We want to hear from you…
