Happy Labor Day! Wait…do I get the day off???

In honor of Labor Day I thought that I would come up with something funny and creative to celebrate the day…. Then I realized, (and I’m kind of embarrassed to admit this) but, I really don’t know what labor day is “celebrating”!   Thanks to Google, I did a quick search and came up with an explanation that is really quite simple.  Its to acknowledge “laborers”.  Wow that’s it.  There was a bit more to it with unions and deaths during a strike, but really its pretty basic.  We of course now celebrate it by hanging with family, over eating and relaxing.  Did I just hear a laugh?  “Relax???  she should know better…Isn’t this blog for moms??”
We went to a lake today and my husband suggested that it is about time that we as a family start camping.  Oh boy…Really???  Just so you know, I’m not a sissy.  I grew up camping (albeit in a motor home) and I loved it!  But you know what? Even as a kid I fully realized the work that my mother put into making it all happen.  So when my husband suggests that we are now at that stage…I cringe!  Grocery shopping and preparing food for days ahead of time, packing (everyone!)  cleaning and organizing during the entire trip, all with a stiff neck from sleeping on a completely uncomfortable bed!  Then getting home meant spending days “recovering”…FUN…for all of us but her!!!  So I guess my time is coming, there is probably no way out of it but for this one last “labor day” I am going to keep my labor to a minimum.  I will still cook, clean and organize but all within the comfort of my home sweet home.  So for all of you wonderful moms brave enough to take on the great outdoors, rock on sister!  And for the rest of us who would rather spend a weekend at a 5 star hotel being waited on, lets all take a minute today and just enjoy exactly where we are at.  It wont be a day off for any of us, but we can love every second of it!  That might be pushing it…lets at least try to love a lot of the seconds.  Have a great Labor Day!
